Fall Fun!

The students have been enjoying all of the special activities with our Fall and October themes! Here's a little peek at some favorite projects!

The class enjoyed learning about the legend of Johnny Appleseed and all about the life cycle of an apple during the month of September. Our really tall projects, for this tall tale genre study, were about main idea and supporting details. This helps us better understand what we read!

We learned about famous explorer Christopher Columbus. The students created a bubble map and included these important facts in their writing pieces.

We made glittery bats during our genre unit with the story Stellaluna!

The students have been reading nonfiction and learning about nonfiction text features like photographs, captions and diagrams with our pumpkin theme. The class is working on a lunch bag mini-book all about the life cycle of a pumpkin! We viewed each stage in real photographs.

This week our genre study continues with one my all-time favorite stories, Boris and Bella. It's a great book about two monsters who are very different. In the end, they find they have some things in common and learn to be tolerant of, and even like one another!

If you'd like to view a neat animated version at home, here is a link to a very creative YouTube video. Click on the book cover above to take you there! :)
