Matter, Mixtures and Making Play Dough

Gooey can be a good thing when it comes to science! We made our own play dough as we learned about matter, mixtures and measurement! It was good, messy fun!

We added food coloring and glitter for a special touch!

The students worked together in groups to invent, design, label and present a new mixture/snack mix!

Each group member was assigned a job.

Their ideas and names for the new mix were so creative! One group combined pickles and sausage!

Thanksgiving Fun and Funnies!

This unit on life long ago is one of my absolute favorites! We have been having so much fun in all subjects around this theme! Here are a few of our many Thanksgiving activities!

The class has been reading many nonfiction books about pilgrims and the first Thanksgiving. We are learning about nonfiction text features like headings, captions, the glossary and table of contents.

We are listening to Miss Emily read the story Little House in the Big Woods.

We have also read many Thanksgiving poems as we worked to improve our reading fluency! These are our poetry binders.

The children made these colorful turkeys to decorate the room!

The class watched several educational videos about life long ago and the pilgrim people.

We completed numerous writing assignments and graphic organizers like how to hide Tom Turkey after we read the fable. We wrote nonfiction pieces about the first Thanksgiving. We wrote about our Thanksgiving celebrations, what we are thankful for and more. Next week we will write to tell how to make corn soup.

This was the cutest! The children wrote some sillies in their mini book, I feel Like a Turkey When...each had their photo taken with a turkey hat on. They wrote some hilarious oopsies in their books. One of my favorites was I feel like a turkey when I call my teacher Mom! :)

These will be up for conferences so you'll have to take a minute to read them!

Corn Soup Feast!

A huge thank you to all of the families who donated items for our corn soup feast! The children had lots of fun imagining to be pilgrim children doing all of their chores like gathering kindling for the fire, picking crops, cooking and churning butter!

Here are some photos of our mini-feast:

Each child got to add something to the soup, stir or watch it cooking! It smelled so good!

Next we "churned" our own butter! It was yummy!

Then we were ready to enjoy our soup! Most of the children loved it! A few others did not, but willingly tried it!

While we feasted, the children performed some of the Thanksgiving poems they had practiced with a partner. They love being able to use the microphone!

Wishing all of you a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday! I am so thankful to be able to share your precious children every day!

Science Stations

We just started a new unit in science on properties of matter. Today the child had a great time visiting various stations to test objects, describe properties and record data they collected on a chart. Here are some photos of our little scientists in action!

Feel free to have your child dictate or type a comment below about what they learned or what they enjoyed most about the activities! You can spell check it for them! :) Be sure to leave their name with the comment! I would like for this blog to be interactive and meaningful for both students and parents!
